The watch’s nickname originates from the shape of the case and its similarity to the shell of a turtle. An oversized screw-down crown sits beside the 4 o’clock position and is protected by a crown guard, which increases the functionality of this watch. This new PADI edition continues the Seiko Prosex association with the globally renowned Professional Association of Diving Instructors. The ‘King Turtle’ edition is differentiated from the normal ‘Turtle’ with the addition of a unidirectional ceramic bezel with interesting and practical machining on the bezel edge and an ultra-scratch resistant sapphire glass with a magnified date window. The benefit of having a ceramic bezel is that it provides greater durability and scratch resistance than a stainless-steel bezel and will also retain its colour, unlike a painted bezel which may fade over time. The shades of blue colour echo that of the gradations of sunlight refracted through the water at different depths. The dial is also finished with a fine texture pattern that symbolises the ocean waves. To showcase an almost 3D effect, 3 Manta Rays are subtly silhouetted on the dial as they would majestically pass by in the ocean if you were lucky enough to see them. The hour makers and hands are covered with Lumibrite which allows the dial to be read in low light. The case and bracelet of the watch is made from highly durable stainless steel with a fine ‘hairline’ brushed finish on the upper case, while the bottom of the case is beautifully highly polished to a mirror finish, the case is sealed to meet 200m water resistance and is ISO 6425 ‘diver’ rated, able to pass all of the requirements of the most serious of ‘tool’ watch tests.
