This timepiece celebrates the 100th anniversary of Seiko on a watch and is limited to only 700 pieces worldwide. In 1969, the 45KS launched and was entered into international watchmaking competitions for accuracy. It became Seiko’s, and Japan’s, first ever certified ‘Chronometre,’ as an exceptionally accurate mechanical timepiece. Inspired by this landmark in Seiko history, King Seiko introduce the ‘Rising Dragon’ re-interpretation of the 4502-8020 original. In 2024, not only is it the 100th anniversary of the Seiko brand on a watch, but it is also the Year of the Dragon, a popular symbol for good fortune in East Asia since ancient times. Resembling scaled dragon skin, the repeated triangular ‘Urokomon’ pattern on the dial is a symbol for prosperity and vitality. The redux echoes the original silhouette with its curved case shape, date feature and 12 o’clock index cut like an arrow feather. It features a narrow link bracelet in true Seiko Sixties style of the time. This timepiece is crafted to be only 9.9mm in depth, being powered by Seiko’s slimmest automatic in-house calibre. With a bidirectional and semi-instantaneous winding mechanism, this 6L35 timepiece is highly practical, and accurate to +15/-10 seconds per day, with a 45-hour power reserve. Long live the new King Seiko: modernised elite watchmaking, yet its stately, dignified and majestically classic looks remain. * In the actual watch, the case back direction may differ from the photograph.
