In 1965, Oris tapped into the zeitgeist with its first dive watch. Its fit-for-purpose stainless steel case and bi-directional bezel wrapped a unique dial design chosen as much for its playfulness as for its clarity and legibility, essential qualities in a watch intended for use underwater. The design captured the creatively unbound spirit of the time, as well as the emerging appetite for recreational diving among the adventurous and upwardly mobile, or Scuba diving, as it would become known. This was a watch for the intrepid and the ambitious. Six decades on, Oris dives into 2025 with a joyful nod to this special heritage design with the 60th Anniversary Edition, a watch that faithfully revives the charm and character of what has become one of the independent Swiss company’s most loved and most iconic models. The new watch has a 40.00 mm stainless steel case, a bi-directional rotating bezel and a Swiss Made automatic mechanical movement, and comes on a stainless steel bracelet. These however are merely a frame for its signature elements, namely the vintage detailing on its black dial: the anti-shock labelling at 6 o’clock, the shorter indices, the singular, large luminescent numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 lifted directly from the 1965 original, and, most significantly, the retro Oris logo with the word “waterproof’ underneath it, revived for the first time in Oris’s contemporary history. The new watch is supplied with an additional leather strap and its case back is decorated with special engravings denoting the 60th anniversary of the design. New year, new joy.
